Blinded by DeepSeek; A Million Other AI Models tracked by Liftr Insights
Liftr Insights article describes what is being missed with the focus on DeepSeek and OpenAI.
AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 5, 2025 // — Liftr Insights, a pioneer in market intelligence driven by unique data, released an article describing data insights into the millions of other models in the wake of recent news focused on the popular models like OpenAI and DeepSeek.
The data show that there are over a million different models. DeepSeek and OpenAI are just a small portion of the bigger picture. Liftr Insights has data that provides a more complete picture of the AI model landscape. The article shows that only 28.4% of models are classified as natural language processing types like DeepSeek and OpenAI.
Analysts are blinded by DeepSeek and OpenAI,
says Tab Schadt, CEO of Liftr Insights. “While they are notable parts of the ecosystem, there is much more happening in the AI Universe that enterprises are not seeing. Market intelligence analysts may be missing some important insights.”
The article points out that the presence of China isn’t just with DeepSeek. The data show China’s percentage of AI compute instances has been growing to 31.4% despite what others may believe.
The article also points out the incentive of cloud providers to direct enterprises to their services, often charging 20%-30% more for AI-enabled instance types compared to CPU-only instances of similar size.
“Cloud providers are not the only vendors attempting to capitalize on the AI craze,” says Schadt. “Our customers realize that objective data is critical for making informed decisions during a media hype and a frenzy of opinions.”
The article can be found at https://liftrinsights.com/series/ai-model/deepseek-and-a-million-other-ai-models. Liftr Insights also recently started a series of articles focused on Arm, while this current series will be focused on the universe of AI and ML models.
